12.10.2015

EWRC Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Ivan N. Ivanov PhD held a meeting with the delegation of the European Climate Foundation (ECF) and the Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE). EWRC members Mrs. Evgenia Haritonova and Mr. Remzi Osman also participated in the talks. The main topics discussed at the meeting were the role of energy efficiency to increase energy independence and energy security, as well as the commitments of the energy regulator in connection with the forthcoming liberalization of the energy market in Bulgaria.

"The national program for refurbishment of residential buildings is the first of a series of steps to improve energy efficiency in Bulgaria and in that regard, close contacts with ECF and BPIE contribute to the success of the whole set of measures conducted at the national level," stressed Ivan Ivanov. Regarding the forthcoming liberalization of the energy market in the country, he said that the energy regulator shall take the necessary measures to fully implement its functions within its competency.

ECF Managing Director Christoph Wollf pointed out that the organization is among the main partners of European institutions in the field of regulatory policy. He clarified that the activities of the organization in Bulgaria are focused mainly on the issues of energy efficiency and in this area the economic impact of conducting comprehensive measures leads to a saving of 40% of the cost of electric energy.

During the meeting agreement was reached that EWRC, ECF, and BPIE would conduct joint discussions on the European legislative framework, aimed at creating a single European energy system, as well as to enhance EWRC administrative capacity in connection with the forthcoming liberalization of the energy market in Bulgaria. The implementation of European best practices, as laid down in electricity market rules, will be a subject of discussion.
